At one with its origins

… with nature, with itself. The Old High German word eriro means ‘beginning’, and it is a word that pays tribute to the origin and name of the Tyrolean village of Ehrwald, which sits at the foot of the Zugspitze mountain. With only 9 suites, eriro is a petite luxury Alpine hideaway engulfed in unspoiled mountain wilderness. The location’s secluded setting places emphasis on the essential and natural, where guests are encountered in their most authentic of states, basking in genuine simplicity.

Nothing touches like the untouched

For millions of years, the powerful forces of nature have shaped all life as it exists today at 1,550 metres: mellow as Ehrwald’s green mountain pastures on an endless summer’s day; where basking in the sun under a deep blue sky, surrounded by a sea of meadow in every direction, brings happiness in its purest form.

Simplicity becomes tangible as it guides your thoughts to the essential. A deepened awareness of the small details and an attentiveness to the nature around you – experienced with each of the five senses – take centre stage.
eriro is nestled against the stunning mountain massifs of the Tyrolean Alps. The Zugspitze rises reverently above dense natural forests. Tough as the rock it is made of, the mountain is well-versed in sudden changes of the weather: summer thunderstorms that break in a matter of minutes, snow clouds that cover the landscape in a metre-high blanket of white overnight. And then the mountains present themselves once again in all their stunning beauty: with pristine, softly contoured snowy landscapes or with the fragility of the summer meadow lush with flowers and herbs.

Memories that anchor in the heart

In the remote corners of the Alps, we become one with nature. From the beginnings of time, life here has inherently been defined by a strong sense of humility towards these majestic mountains, the seasons and weather conditions determine how each day is lived: at times calm and mellow, while others are archaic and intense, living here means being perpetually alert with all the senses – focusing on the essential. When life is defined in this way, experiences and time-honoured traditions anchor themselves as lasting memories with each and every action.

  • Mountain and body: making firewood for the winter, working with rock and stone, confronting extreme weather conditions and heavy snowfall
  • Mountain and culture: yodelling, breathing techniques for mind and body, bathing in hay
  • Nature and the senses: creating snow profiles to assess avalanche risk, barefoot hiking, legends and traditions relating to Alpine flora, snowshoeing to the Seebensee high mountain lake, contemplating the unique shapes of snowflakes
  • Atelier on the mountain: learning original Alpine craftsmanship techniques
  • Skiing: arrange a private ski guide

Step back to the beginnings of time

The cable car is the only way to arrive to eriro – as the houses and lights of the valley below drift away and become ever smaller, so too do the thoughts of everyday life, fading into the background as soon as you arrive. At 1,550 metres above sea level, surrounded by meadows and forests, the Alpine hideaway blends into the pristine Tyrolean Alps.

eriro is a modern retreat with the pureness of mountain life flowing through its veins: Respect for the grandeur of nature, which floods into each room through enormous glass panes, harmonises with a minimalist design that makes your experience with nature inside the space one that you feel you could almost touch. Accents created from the area’s natural materials – stone, reclaimed wood and natural fibres – pay homage to the traditional culture and craftsmanship of the Alpine region.

Nature-Illuminated interiors

Be yourself in the greatest sense of the meaning, aware and in the moment. eriro has just 9 suites – sprawled across 1,800 square metres of space – to offer its guests a most private and warmly-managed, all-inclusive luxury experience that can only be found at a retreat of this size.

Restrained in design and furnished with colours and local materials that exude warmth, the suites provide structure and shelter: a protective place of warmth and refuge that brings nature in all its facets into the room directly through its large windows.

The flavour of tradition

A real fire heats the stove, authentic preparations, and traditionally grown, local Alpine ingredients – this is the basis for the unique culinary experience at eriro, which focuses on new interpretations of celebrated traditional flavours. To capture the spirit of the culinary origins of Tyrol, the menus are inspired by the gripping and ever-changing weather conditions at altitude: from coarse and powerful to gentle, mild and delicate, the dishes reflect the seasons and moods of the mountain, evocatively arranged on wood or stone, in the form of a nest or on a bed of grains …

Silence as an experience

The delicate aromas of hay and herbs on a summer’s stroll, the moss and earth scents of autumn, the invigorating rush of ice-cold mountain water: the spa brings nature’s rich abundance into a single and tranquil space, taking inspiration from the traditional wisdom of local naturalists and herbalists.
