In winter, the mountain draws nearer. When snow settles like a protective blanket across the slopes, lines become clearer. What holds, remains. What does not, steps back. In the first light of day, the crunch of tracks breaks the softened quiet - long before the first gondola reaches the mountain. Nature sets the rhythm: crisp air, low sounds, warmth by the fire. From stillness grows a sense of shelter; time loses its urgency here. Unvarnished and unfiltered, winter turns the gaze toward what holds: the simple. The real.
ARRIVING IN THE
HUSH OF SNOW

Winter, up close

A day in berc winter
07:30 – MORNING BEGINS CALM
Before the first gondola rises from the valley, the way leads straight from eriro onto the slopes of the Ehrwalder Alm. Ski-in, ski-out. Untouched snow, empty runs - only the quiet glide of skis. First light settles on the peaks - pink drifting into blue. Nothing stands between the moment and now.
08:00 – FIRST LINES IN POWDER
Cold air clears the mind; every turn is placed with intent. The mountain reveals itself wide and quietly grand. The ski pass is part of the all-in service.
09:00 – WARMTH & NOURISHMENT
Back for a pause: hands begin to warm, the gaze comes to rest on the snow-covered wide. Fortifying delights made with regional produce are already set on the table - thick socks on the feet, a smile on the lips. The serene knowing: something has already been done for oneself. No spectators - only the self.
10:30 – THE MOUNTAIN IN ITS WINTER ROBE
Step by step, accompanied by the white openness. The view expands - chamois leap from rock to rock, and a raven becomes a friendly companion. A snowshoe hike with our guide through the snow-covered mountain world sharpens the eye for life in berc winter.
13:30 – STOPPING IN & PAUSING
Warming cuisine and the taste of the mountain. Wind and weather on the plate - the moods of the season transformed into nourishing dishes. A moment of reflection. A book, a board game, a steaming herbal tea, the gaze on the white landscape.
15:00 – HANtWERC & LETTING GO
Pottery or working with wood and hands. Real material, imagination flowing into form; thoughts are allowed to pass. A meditative rhythm that grounds and gathers.
16:30 – WARMTH & RECOVERY
ochi kema: sauna, water, hay room and sound loungers. Heat sinks into the body while outside the evening glow ignites the snow-covered peaks in fiery colour. A natural spectacle that holds one spellbound.
19:00 – EVENING BY THE FIRE
Dinner warms from within - created with care. Stories begin to form - sometimes spoken, often only thought. Like earlier times, when families sat together on winter evenings and let stories unfold.
21:00 – NIGHT ABOVE THE MOUNTAIN
Outside, snow glitters in moonlight beneath a sky full of stars. Inside: calm, shelter, the soft crackle of the fire. A good glass of wine. The mountain keeps watch.
